要 旨
Working with Prof. Dapeng Zhao during my visit to GRC, Ehime University from 1 April to 1 August 2004, I have used seismic tomography and thermal
modeling to investigate the subduction system in the western Pacific and the intraplate earthquakes and volcanisms in East Asian continent.
Tomography results suggest a horizontally extended mantle wedge above both the subducting and stagnant oceanic slabs and low seismic velocity
anomalies observed at depths of 100-300 km could be responsible for both the arc and intraplate volcanisms in East Asia. Preliminary results
of dynamic modeling, which solves for both the subduction induced mantle flow and its resulting temperatures, will be presented. Efforts will
be focused on geodynamic implications of the modeling flow and thermal structures to the Japan subduction system and the tectonics and
volcanisms in East Asia.
