要 旨
I will introduce our recent studies on the deep structure of subducting slabs and mantle plumes and their relationship to the deep Earth dynamics. The stagnant Pacific slab in the mantle transition zone under East Asia is clearly imaged with our high-resolution regional and global tomography. The slab finally collapses down to the core-mantle boundary, which can stimulate the upwelling of mantle plumes and cause strong lateral heterogeneity in the D" layer.
