 Density changes of pyrolite and MORB as a function of depth were determined by in-situ X-ray diffraction measurements around 660 km seismic discontinuity, with a combination of multi-anvil apparatus and synchrotron radiation at SPring-8. We were successful to constrain the density changes of pyrolite and MORB as a function of depth. The absolute density changes of pyrolite were agreed well with those of PREM, especially under lower mantle conditions. However, some results on the basis of high P-T experiments, combined with density calculation using representative equations of state for constituent minerals of these rocks, yielded significantly large uncertainty (~1-4%). This is due to the uncertainties of thermoelastic parameters, such as chemical composition dependences, of individual minerals, especially Mg-perovskite and majorite garnet.
