In this seminar I will first show our new global tomography model (Ehime-2006). The main feature of the Ehime-2006 model is that a flexible grid is adopted to express the 3-D Earth structure, thus the structure under the polar regions can be better represented than that in our previous Ehime-2004 model. Then I will show some new results on the mantle structure and seismic and volcanic activity in the Eurasian continent, which are obtained for completing a research project funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education and Science (Kiban-A 17204037). These results include a high-resolution mantle tomography of East Asia, origin of the Baikal rift zone, and the relationship between the intraplate volcanoes and the subducting slabs, etc.
