要 旨
Recent seismological studies have revealed the existence of thin and intermittent layers, in which the compressional and shear wave velocities are significantly reduced, so called Ultra-Low Velocity Zones (ULVZs) just above the Earth's core-mantle boundary (CMB). The origins of the ULVZs are likely related to partial melting of the mantle or chemical heterogeneity in the lowermost mantle. In the lower mantle, MgSiO3-perovskite (Mg-Pv) has been believed to be a major mineral component. Investigating the melting temperature of Mg-Pv at lower mantle conditions is therefore important for understanding the partial melting of mantle. In previous experimental studies, the melting temperature of Mg-Pv was estimated up to ~60 GPa from the relation between laser power and generated temperature using Laser-Heated Diamond Anvil Cell (LH-DAC).
In the present study, we performed melting experiment of Mg-Pv using LH-DAC. I will present experimental results to ~70 GPa and discuss partial melting of the mantle in this seminar.
