要 旨
Determination of high-pressure and high-temperature phase equilibria of materials is always the most fundamental research theme both geophysically and solid-state physically. In this seminar I report three new high-pressure phase transitions of major Earth and planetary materials (Fe2O3, Fe-S alloy and SiO2) I identified within the last one year since my last Geodynamics Seminar. Those have all been predicted by using the ab initio density functional computation method and were found to have the transition conditions relevant to the Earth's lower mantle, Earth's core and giant planet interior. Some of them are already supported or to be confirmed experimentally by collaborating with experimental groups. These novel phase changes are quite surprising and unexpected but have many significant implications including initiations of breakdown of some important silicate phases (MgSiO3 and CaSiO3).
