Abstract
BOTCHAN-6000, constructed about two years ago at SOSEKI Lab, is currently the world largest Kawai-type multianvil device. The initial target of this apparatus is to synthesize nano-polycyrstal diamond (NPD or HIME-Dia) for scientific applications, and technical developments have been made toward this purpose. Now, we are able to synthesize NPD rods of up to 8.0 mm on a routine basis, which have been processed using a pulse-laser to form anvils with various shapes, and are ready for applications to new high-pressure devices. Moreover, synthesis of the NPD rods with 1 cm have also been successfully achieved in the last few months, and those with larger samples may be produced within the capacity of BOTCHAN-6000. Here I will talk about the history of large Kawai-type apparatus, current status of BOTCHAN-6000, nature and potential applications of NPD, and future strategic research plans using this unique apparatus.
