“New directions of multianvil synchrotron research
at GSECARS”

要 旨
The multianvil press high pressure synchrotron research facility at the
GSECARS beamlines consists of two large-volume presses (LVP): a 2.5 MN
(250 ton) system at the bending magnet beamline (13-BM-D) and a 10 MN system
at the insertion device beamline 13-ID-D. Both systems experience steadily
increasing annual usage from ~70 days in 1998 to ~120 days in 2001. So
far, over 400 runs have been carried out at our facility in a wide range
of research areas. In this presentation, we will present an overview of
the facility with brief scientific highlight of the types of research and
achievements. We will then focus on some new directions we are currently
working on, including (1) quantitative stress-strain measurements in the
deformation DIA using cBN anvils, (2) development in high pressure tomography
using an X-ray transparent Drickamer cell, (3) potentials of tomography
as a semi-quantitative tool for in-situ or non-destructive composition
analysis, and (4) status of high P, T ultrasonic measurements.
