要 旨
The grain growth kinetics in wadsleyite was investigated using a multianvil high-pressure apparatus. Fine-grained
wadsleyite aggregates were synthesized by isostatic hot-pressing and subsequently annealed under high pressure and
temperatures with different chemical environment. Wadsleyite samples show normal grain growth characterized by a
log-normal grain-size distribution following a relation, L n(t)-Ln(0) = k (T,P,C) t where n is a constant, L(t) is the
grain-size at time t, and k (T,P,C) is a rate constant that depends on temperature (T), pressure (P) and chemical
environment (C). The grain growth kinetics in wadsleyite is found to be more sluggish than that in olivine compared at
similar thermodynamic conditions. However, the grain growth kinetics is sensitive to chemical environment: both water
and oxygen fugacities significantly enhance the grain growth kinetics.
