The members of the Computational Earth Science Laboratory took the lead in organizing The 9th Meeting of the Study of Planetary Deep Interior, which was held at Shimonano-sato in Niyodogawa Town, Kochi Prefecture, from August 3 to 6, 2025. A total of 18 participants—including 7 international researchers—joined the meeting, representing Ehime University, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo University of Science, the University of Poitiers, and JAMSTEC. The workshop was a four-day, three-night gathering held at Shimonano-sato and at the Karst Terrace in the Shikoku Karst Tengu Plateau.
On the first day, a night poster session was held, where lively discussions took place in a pleasantly cool, air-conditioned-free room despite the severe summer heat. On the fourth day, the participants moved to the Shikoku Karst Tengu Plateau, where they observed Japan’s highest-altitude karst limestones and visited the local museum in the Karst Terrace to learn about the geological evolution of western Japan and the geology of present-day Shikoku.
In the quiet mountain setting, the informal and relaxed atmosphere encouraged closer interaction between researchers and students, making the meeting highly fruitful. The next meeting is scheduled to be held at Kyushu University in March.
